The sense of foreboding is well done. I def resent Charles now too

Halfway in and I still don't care about anyone. The characters are either bland or mildly annoying. The antagonists aren't all that interesting either, which is surprising.

The trad wife life really is a horror story

It's kinda funny that she's had her only O with a literal demon instead of her "did you come?" chud husband. It also speaks to the tragedy of her marriage when she feels like she can't talk to her husband about anything real (and he wouldn't care anyway since he views her as a bang maid and he's cheating anyway)

The husband already gives me the ick

Hawkins has a way of writing unsettling scenes with the most mundane props. Excited to see more of it, though I wonder if this will get as batshit as Mount Char

The mid-book slump is too real

I wish publishers chose audiobook narrators who have the same accent as the protagonist of the book (where applicable). This narrator is highly competent, but I just wish they'd chosen someone with a Japanese accent instead of a British one. It would bring the story to life all the more.

This book is making me hungry 😩
