It's really not as bad as others keep saying. It's not all about Oliver and Elio as CMBYN but still reflects well their lives, thoughts and feeling 15-20 years after Italy. Also, it's really not as shocking as CMBYN is regarding weird symbolic scenes like the peach one, toilet one, etc.

I feel so sorry for Michael. There's no way anything will come of their relationship. Elio has feelings for him solely because their relationship reminds him of Oliver, while Michael seems to have real feelings for Elio. That's quite sad considering the whole thing with his father's musical score.

I find it weird when writers deliberately choose to create two characters with a 10+ age gap and write a romantic story about them.
Samuel must be somewhere between 45-50 here and Miranda is around Elio's age, so around 30, there's literally no need for them to be this many years apart.
I'm not gonna skip the book just 'cause of that, it might still be good regardless, I just think that's quite an odd choice...
