Since companies must spend money to sponsor immigrants, on average companies pay immigrants less than they would pay citizens and residents for doing the same job. Not enough for it to be super egregious, but enough to make you go, "Wait, you pay Brendan WHAT? " It's an unfair labor practice, similar to one known as "how they treat women."

The fact that now it [immigration] is a wing of Homeland Security tells us much about how immigration is perceived by the government since the turn of the 21st century...if immigration were its own department or if it were still under the DOJ or the Department of Labor, we would regulate it in a way that would be more humane and would probably be more beneficial both to immigrants and to the economy.
