even if it wasn't doctor octopus, peter would still have been horrified to see his aunt marry another, move on from ben's death. he says mere panels earlier that he can't stop thinking about gwen. his own preventable tragedy, his own lover lost. to see his aunt make the step he is unable to would have always been a mortifying sight... even if the step wasn't taken with his arch nemesis

it has not stopped raining since gwen stacy died. the ambience of this new darker world is moody, moonlit, and soaked through. Peter is more aimless than ever, allowing himself to be caught away on emotion and act out in fits of grieving guilt-ridden rage. and also there is a werewolf on the loose

some genuinely tender stuff in here among the melancholic drama and violent anger. that scene with harry is legitimately haunting. the way peter carries around and speaks to gwen's corpse as if she can somehow still hear him, only stopping when literally torn apart by an officer of the law, is devastating. conway is locked in and this entire arc has been simply too good.

the death of gwen stacy really holds up. even knowing this issue as well as i do, it remained excellently tense. the goblin feels like a living natural disaster who cannot be contained, only redirected. poor peter. poor gwen. what an issue
