Omg. At this point in the war, Stalin doesn't have enough weapons to arm all of his soldiers. The ones in the front have them and the ones behind them are to get guns from the fallen soldiers ahead of them.
The propaganda on both sides is insane. I love the regular references to Orwell's memory hole. A lot went down that hole.

Not a good as Bloodlands (Timothy Snyder) but I like to get a few perspectives on the same subject when I can. Both start with the premise that you can't understand them by separating one from the other.
