Problem is I’ve read the 1st chapter multiple times but don’t remember until reading so I’m rereading again (argh!) in anticipation of actually continuing this time - it always seems fascinating + a fun read + each time I’ve been distracted by life or other things

So here we are, contemplating the titular pendulum again which always reminds me of the 1 they had in the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. And onward

Restart on this New Year’s Day sitting in an HK Starbucks during a trip for a new China visa

Feeling gleeful at this beginning!
Bringing back a sense of what TNotR felt like in its gleefully tangled mystery on the edge of understanding

And as an aside, had to check and there are indeed 120 chapters in this book

No I did not check all the Kabbalist math he invokes - admittedly I mostly skimmed it🤷‍♀️

Making me think zingingly of Snow Crash and of The Club Dumas
Brain racing bc of whatever today or bc of this book I don’t know

Starting 2 think Eco just likes catalogs + lists of things generally (seen here, Island +Name)

So much of beginning of being + figures across mythologies. The essential, stationary, finite, + impossible 2 identify or define point from which the pendulum swings + all being extends, space + time. He hints @sacrifice + enlightenment, true + false, all in a 1st chapt confined 2 looking thru a museum 4 a hiding place
