This is a very complex, in-depth, epic fantasy series in which the author, West, trusts her readers' intelligence & doesn't hold the reader's hand while telling The Sun Sword saga. Like Malazan, the reader is thrown into this world without a life jacket & expected to swim or drown in the ambiguous subtleties conjured by the cultures West builds within her world. I find myself enjoying this novel despite these facts.
