Damn. It's been difficult finding time to read but when I do, I find myself lost with the pages of this book. I have to say this series is one of the better ones I've read. Excellent character development, great prose & it isn't written by an author who starts a series but doesn't finish it. Furthermore, it has a great slow burn, keeping me turning the pages. I love slow burns that are well written & this series is.

Okay. Haven't been able to find time to read & I've only been able to steal away from my work & read a couple of pages during breaks. But! I will confess: Williams has hooked me with this one after my Otherland DNF. I would call this High Dark Fantasy with reworked Fantasy troupes--and that's okay! I'm in! And he is a very good writer and world builder. It's the weekend & I'm gonna deep dive it!

This is my second attempt at reading Williams, having abandoned his first Otherland novel by page 300. I can handle 1K page novels, it just wasn't for me. So far, I'm really enjoying this. A combination of dark and high fantasy done with very well crafted prose. First impression: I'm impressed and will commit if I continue to be.

M. West hits her stride with the first sentence, weaving embroidered prose with a style I am truly jealous of. Her Sun Sword series is a banquet for the serious veteran of Fantasy lit. She belongs in the camp of Erikson with her series sitting comfortably next Malazan on your shelf. I love it that much and equally.

To start the 7th, final, novel of a series that has brought stability to a very difficult time in my life is both thrilling and edged with sadness. Hadrian has changed with each passing novel and I with him. Bittersweet is the only word I can use to describe my assessment of this beginning of the end to one of my favorite epics.
