To start the 7th, final, novel of a series that has brought stability to a very difficult time in my life is both thrilling and edged with sadness. Hadrian has changed with each passing novel and I with him. Bittersweet is the only word I can use to describe my assessment of this beginning of the end to one of my favorite epics.
