The pandemic’s impact on relationships is a theme I respond to. I’ve read other books that try to understand the pandemic but this book speaks to me. Some of these relationships remind me of a few friendships i had that were altered at that time. Not to say we were powerless to control the fate of our friendships only that sometimes forces of that magnitude are at work and you only see it after the fact.

I’m on page 8 and remembering why I loved Strout’s writing so much. You feel artistry from the beginning, something not a lot of authors give me even though I might enjoy them a lot.
