That last part was wholesome. In the movie the kids barely stay with Cousin Eunice for two days but here they were there for weeks. I’m glad cause we see they tried. I love that all this time James was the happy one but because hes so smart he figured Dicey was leaving and so they stopped her lol. So cute how it turned out regardless of happiness he will always pick his sisters and brother. Also showing sacrifice.

Does anybody in this town care that Dicey is a CHILD?! Like wth. They’re all treating her like she’s 18. I know she’s responsible and compétant but there is just so much she can take. I am proud of her for the small business she made. I hated how father Joseph spoke about Maybeth. I also hate how they show little care to Sammy and his developmental issues that cause him to behave like this. HES 6. Jeez

Dicey has my outmost respect. The way she doesn’t even think twice about taking care of her siblings. Even things like washing their underwear. Small but major things. Selfless. She has a big heart. A kind and honest little girl. It’s so important to constantly remember that she’s barely a teenager. When she told the boys her story it really put in perspective how insane all this is.

Chapter 2 was good. The book feels exactly like the movie. They did a good job (the movie people). Casting, acting and directing was all spot on. The book as a usual just has a bit more details. Like knowing about Sammys attitude. The last paragraphs I felt for Dicey because you can really tell this is difficult on her and she’s trying to be composed.

I first watched the movie. I loved it so much. So I had to get the book. I want to know more. But even more than that I want to know how the kids and their grandma end up. So I’m here and I have to say chapter 1 didn’t disappoint. I’ve always wondered why the mom would just leave like that. The movie is very vague on the why. Now it’s getting clearer that she was mentally deteriorating. Very sad.
