i’m not sure if that was the intended effect by the author but i’ve found the mental image of his correction abt captain smith going down with titanic inexplicably hilarious:

also i think enough time have passed that we can have a titanic comedy now: ‘Rushing up the stairs, carpenter J. Hutchinson told a different story. […] Then a mail clerk rushed onto the bridge […]. The cast of characters on the bridge was growing. The director of White Star appeared in his carpet slippers with pyjamas still on under his suit.’
