I’m confused. If the shadows started moving after Luzia did her demonstration, wouldn’t it have been natural to assume Luzia had done it and that her power was of the devil? In the story it’s not, but that’s immediately what I assumed. Why is everyone acting like there is some secret killer on the loose? I think that’s what we’re meant to believe but I think it’s not sold well

This is already an incredible read right out of the gate. I love the voice, I love the setting, I love the mystery.
The only other Leigh Bardugo I’ve read is Shadow and Bone and I did not like it. I remember the imagery and the world being pretty interesting but I felt like it wasn’t compelling enough for me to continue and it was too trope-y for me. But I can already tell Bardugo writes stronger adult voices
