Updating as I read bc I just finished chapter 2 + I wanna remember my thoughts.
Chapter 1 was a total romp, playful and juicy and exciting as it described Eve’s life. I love Eve and have for a long time so it was a great read.
But, I also really love Joan. I just finished chapter 2 and I have to say, I audibly scoffed and furrowed my brows like 5 times. This author is so mean about Joan??? Why write this then??

Ran out of characters but like… why write a book about two women who weren’t even necessarily relevant to one another in the public eye - like yeah they had a relationship but who cares - if you so clearly think Joan Didion is a cold, phony, glassy-eyed vampire?? She’s literally reading Joan quotes in SUCH BAD FAITH. I love to defend Eve but this is a weird way to defend her honor, by bashing and flattening a woman you deemed her opposite. Hopefully it gets better!
