The gist so far is: California's economy evolved in this specific way, scraps of welfare were given out and huge spending in military interests allowed for economic prosperity. The situation changed (1970s, post-Fordism), the system couldn't reproduce itself, excess capital, land, labor CRISIS! And the crisis was not solved in interest of people rather in interest of capital, with prisons

Through chapter one. It's interesting reading this and hearing Gilmore's voice in my head. It was a lot of theory and definitions just now, but I think I'll learn a lot. One detail that matches up with Gilmore's interviews is her definition of racism as the state-sanctioned production of vulnerability to premature death for specific groups (not easy to put succinctly).
