This is getting pretty high up on the "What the fuck is going on scale", from human bone soup to immortal group boning and uhh necrophilia. I am pretty sure the flashback chapters are implanted memories to give Harrow a fake account of what happened in book 1 in order to stop her from remembering Gideon. The absence of Gideon is felt (positively), the moment she inevitably gets brought back I instantly DNF.

What the actual fuck. If the first book was anything like this I would have given it a 4+ Why is the writing, especially in the second person chapters, suddenly fantastic? It also leans way heavier into the weird parts of the first book, abandoning any semblance to generic sff. The dialogue is still horribly written but there is less of it, so I can stomach it (for now). Interested to see where this goes.

You should read Perdido Street Station already and join me on the fun side of literature, we have:
- Statues made out of spit!
- Human-scarab beetle relationships! (Click those mandibles for me, my love!)
- Hallucinogenic moth excrement!
- Inter-dimensional spiders that randomly attack people with scissors for no reason because it makes pretty patterns in their figurative webs!
- Magical punishments that fuse criminals with machines, animals, and all kinds of fun objects!
...
- Sneaky pro-communist sentiments!
And that is just one book! A swift 700 pages (The "This book was written with a keyboard in one hand and a thesaurus in the other" accusations are baseless, I promise!)
I need you to open up that genre-constrained mind of yours, and then the prospect of some good old human bone soup will get you hyped as well!
P.S. Finish reading Of Mice and Men already, you are disrespecting my GOAT. If you give it below 4* I will buy a copy of Dracula and ritually burn it.
P.P.S. You are right, but this book mostly bangs so far.
