I'm surprised that this growing relationship between peaceful woodland creatures in different locations didn't generate more communication and trade. The relationship between Salamandastron and Redwall have been spotty with trade, travel, and aid to each other have only happened rarely. It seems growth and change isn't something that Brian Jacques carries over, but rather re-establishes a status quo.

This story ended too short. Even Goodreads says that there should be more pages.

Two-score and five hares? That's 45. Pretty sure they only brought 32. Although I just realized that number isn't right either as 24 hares were rowing the boat plus 3 others were stationed elsewhere. And how many hares were killed in the fighting? If I'm being generous, there should only be a score left.

And thus ends the life of Cuthbert the mad march hare, as he slays this monster.

"Without any prior warning, the dark waters rose in a hump, and Slothunog was among them! The monster was a throwback of some primitive age, covered in jet-black scales with a humped back and a long serpentlike neck. It hissed aloud, blowing a spray of water, its reptilian head swaying back and forth as it struck with a cavernous mouthful of glittering teeth." Definitely like the Loch Ness Monster.

Looking at the map, this island is big enough that they can go around the crater and avoid the cats. They don't have to take the most direct path. Also, with the cats all in one spot without adequate supplies, all the otters and hares have to do is lay seige to the barricade.

This insolent cat has never fought in a real battle. He's up against fierce, determined skirmish fighters and battle-hardened veterans.

I was wondering when we were going to get around to Tiria learning of Brinty's death.

They're celebrating too early. There's still cats left. One Pitru, insolent cub to the warlord.

Better to leave it as a heap of ash and memories to slowly blow away with time than to live in such a place of terrible histories.

And that strike from Tiria was also very sudden and swift too. But that's what happens when a skilled fighter uses range weapons.
