Winston is such a sick little creep. This is some of the most intensely masochistic shit I've ever read in my life and I've actively sought out fetish literature. I don't like it. I bet Orwell was having a blast writing this though haha

I don't understand why he's not allowed to talk to this girl? That makes no sense. How much of this dystopia is actually enforced and how much of it is just this guy being completely neurotic and a loser?

Okay yeah this book is actually kind of funny because the main character is such a loser, such a pitiful disaster, plus the ongoing bit about the cigarettes falling apart. It would be much funnier if it didn't land so hard. So many men are this guy right now all around us. Damn that's tragic
