first I thought this is getting a bit on the nose with Experiemnt City (esp. the insemination ritual on Dec 24th) but then it clicked that Amane's fear of family as she knows it vanishing is an echo of her mother's fear of sex vanishing. maybe this is more about progress in general (like Antonioni's Red Deser) than guilt and shame in connection to sex

i like the way she talks about sex and i do understand the adam & eve rhing better now and the whole premise; sex is treated like a shameful thing right now so removing it is what humanity is idealistically headed towards .. which makes this basically a sci-fi book
