It’s getting harder to understand the perspectives of his family. Initially it seemed like the book was looking to balance the focus between Justin and Willa, but at this point it’s clearly Justin’s story. His mother is incapable of love. That’s the clear anguish. A mother unable to love her son. But why can’t Willa? What is this strange coldness?
