Goes without saying… so sad and horrifying. It’s the history we already know- but in vivid color and undeniable detail.

I’ve learned more about slavery & the Am. Revolution by reading 1/2 this book than in all my years of school. Did you know the tories imprisoned rebels & civilians in buildings throughout New York…and starved/tortured them? And, it never occurred to me that black Am. vernacular is different from white Am. vernacular b/c slave owners didn’t typically teach their slaves-so their language developed organically.

Struggling to put it down. The story is heart wrenching and thus far has fantastically told the story of a young girl in Africa who was kidnapped to a slave ship. The author spares no details in the narration of the journey to America, the girl’s impressions upon arrival, and the auction. All perfunctorily covered in school, but the added details fill in an even more horrific picture than I previously imagined.
