A 13 year old from 1899 who has read Oscar Wilde. Kill me now. This book is breaking my brain.

I feel like this problem between Simon and his mother should have been the entirety of the story - how do you get over your mother kicking you out of the house? This is the only emotional honesty found in this book.

"Magnus had been around the block before blocks were invented." Um. That's pretty insulting, considering that this is a bisexual character. Also I wish Magnus and Alec were actual characters so that a fight about the Whole Foods incident would break out.

"In such a wonderful world, how could anything go wrong?" Really. Hmm. Who's going to die in this one?

Wow. Helen is the only character I've liked somewhat so far and she's just used to get Izzy and Simon back together. Great.

"... her fierce and fiercely intelligent gaze evoking all those annoying feelings again." WRITING! Also, I don't understand Isabelle at all. She's so all over the place that she doesn't have a personality.

Why is everyone holding it against Simon for not being immediately in love with Isabelle? He doesn't remember her. Also, pet peeve: when a trait about a character is told to you rather than shown (i.e. Izzy being "fragile" - how demoralizing is that?)

I don't know why a character with a "Scottish brogue" uses "dude" and "bro" in conversation. For that matter, why is there absolutely no hint of his accent in his dialogue?

Are you trying to tell me that two people wrote this novella and it's still written this poorly? Help.
