I have to admit, I despaired of ever finishing this and skipped the whole section of essays on religion due to lack of interest in that particular debate. I think I can get to the end now, and I will still call it done. This book is a monster.

As something to dip into on a whim, yes. To read through, probably not. The essays that discuss current events are from the 2010s and seem hopelessly quaint from here. The Stone is a NYT feature, so you may be able to get similar essays online.
