The betrayal blew me away. Regarding the troll and the cave, etc., I have to say that it seems mighty derivative. Even with the modern elements added, it still feels like Tolkien. That said, it certainly held my attention anyway.

Unusual to see characters so well developed in a horror novel. One of his finest, at least so far.

I just want to weep for Gwen. The plot point, when it first came up, seemed trite and I was grumpy, but now I am so attached to the characters that it doesn't count against him as much.

Disappointed in one major plot point, the thing that King Sorrow makes Gwen do with regard to Arthur. Trite--although in other scenarios I've seen it used, there was no dragon involved.

So good!!

Oh, so creepy. A fine Halloween read, and I"m not even a fifth into it yet!
