In Gerda’s description of Hammurabi codes, I notice the clear parallels to later Abrahamic revelations. Mesopotamia obviously has been the cultural origin point to middle eastern religions. Not to accuse of plagiarism, but that subconscious patterns may allow prejudice and patriarchal ideas to persist across time. I don’t think that means that it has altered our biology, but old habits die hard.

Sections on women’s sexuality and autonomy feel repetitive, but the analysis of biblical creation narratives clearly show how female inferiority is embedded in belief. Feminist reinterpretations that woman’s creation from the rib as “refined matter” rather than dust still accept her secondary origin and reinforce inequality. Even so, feminist rereadings challenge the priesthood’s monopoly over religion.

It feels especially important to read this now, at a time when feminism is being dismissed globally while fascism resurges. That constant, simmering female rage stirs even more fiercely reading the history of oppression . I find myself wondering , is this rage a force for defiant action, or is it something that leaves me feeling helpless?
