My mouth is on her neck, my hand between us yanking my belt open. Her nails rake through my bloody hair, digging in so hard, it hurts.
“You turned on by blood?”
“I’m turned on by watching you fuck people up,”
“You’re in luck. I’ve got a list of people to fuck up,”

this scene made me question my mental health (not really hehe~)

The soft tip of her finger touches the tattoo on my ribs. A flash of pain ripples through my memory. It’s a brand, underneath the ink.

“We’re animals, Della,” I say. “People aren’t good. We’re conscious, evil animals. We’re not above anything. We’re below it—hell, animals wouldn’t do the shit we do to each other. That’s the only thing that makes any sense to me, after the things I’ve seen.”

“I regret that,” he says finally. “If I could go back and change things, I would do it in a heartbeat.”
“I could kill you,” I say finally.
“I’d be honored.”
Nothing is more frustrating than hating someone who won’t fucking hate me back.
“God, you never stop, huh?” I run a hand over my face.
“Love is a terrible thing,” he says.

She wriggles up and lays her chin on my chest. 
For a second, it’s fine. Then, I’m on the kitchen floor, back to the cupboards, Holly in my lap.
My heart increases. Smoothly, I flip her onto her back, push her up on the pillows, and lay my cheek on her thigh. Her brows knit, but she doesn’t say anything.

My life is good, beyond my wildest dreams.
Until it isn’t, and everything crumbles in a single night. On horseback, with only a revolver on my belt, I head west to cowboy country and never look back.
Fuck Holly.
Fuck Kentucky.
And most of all, fuck Brothers Boyd.

“What’s your name?” I ask.
“Brothers,” he says.
“Say what?”
“It’s Brothers Boyd,” he says.
“Brothers is your first name?”
He nods. “Yeah, what’s yours?”
“Jensen,” I say, “Childress.”
