I'm feeling conflicted about this book. I like the issues that it is talking about with both society and the publishing industry but I feel like as a satire it is not effective as it could be. June is supposed to be a disliked character and she is constructed well to be despised but part of her characterization is constantly punching down and being prejudiced while Kuang is being critical of problematic instructions.
