It is interesting that the book takes it time finally getting around to introducing the full cast of characters. Dickon, Mr. Craven, and Colin don't appear until the midpoint.

Burnett's pacing and prose is haphazard. The focus on the Yorkshire dialect is curious as is the homeopathic disposition toward health maximization. Certainly a conservative vision of the good life.
