1. Whether or not the commercial interest of the modern financial system falls within the definition of riba prohibited by the Qur'an; and if it does, whether it can be allowed on the basis of necessity;
2. Whether modern financial transactions can be designed w/out interest, and whether the proposed alternatives are feasible within the framework of contemporary commerce and finance.
