"It must be overwhelming to simply... be able to do anything. To be able to make friends with whoever you want. Pick your profession. I can barely select a broth for noodles. You're so good at all of that, Painter. How?"

I am going to drop kick you so hard you'll fly all the way to China.

I'm so damn TIRED of the Stockholm syndrome trope with the young naive girl who's been lied to her whole life by the older, stricter, restrictive woman and still chooses to stay with her because that's all she's ever known. I don't care that this is the realistic response to such a situation, GET IT OUT OF MY FACE. These girls NEVER have any grit and it INFURIATES ME, GROW A PAIR JESUS CHRIST.

" 'Design. Is... what I'm doing important? [...] I mean being a nightmare painter. It's an important job, right?'

'Uh, yeah. Obviously. Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time there was a place with no nightmare painters. Then the people got eaten. It's a short story.' "

I-- 😭✋

The narrator is... interesting, to say the least. He's funny. However, I don't want funny right now. The story he's telling isn't particularly humorous so I find there to be a slight tonal mismatch, which kind of irks me because I wanted this to be a more serious narrative, but oh well. I'll try to shift my expectations I guess.
