i really really like this book but i also really wish it was more intersectional? cause like. there’s no way the four most notable female philosophers we should be talking about here were all western white women. some diversity of thought would be very nice.
in the meantime though. very much stewing on “all life is suffering, and the trick is to find the suffering that’s worth longing for.” hmmmm

“i inferred it was a virtue for women in philosophy to be cool, unflappable. yet i felt constitutionally incapable of such indifference and frustrated that it was expected of me… i couldn’t shake my identity of a woman when i was doing philosophy. it trailed me like a stray dog.” very real. almost cried lol

my dad was watching don’t look up in the background while i was reading this and the. soup that it made to watch a shitty recreation with leonardo de caprio of all people of the downfall of our society interlaced with reading about fucking rousseau saying that women should be raised from infancy to serve men is. soulcrushing. no one is seeing me for the next fourteen years while i try and fix whatever just happened
