When Amka is nearly killed in an explosion Christian starts to wonder if someone is trying to kill her and why.

First of this series I have read and so far it's pretty good. Follows Christian Osprey a former Navy Special Operator who avoids people. He loves isolation and spends most of his time outdoors. Despite his avoidance he has a soft spot for Amka, the local tavern owner. I am confused as she is engaged to a real douche Jared but so far it is not explained why as she doesn't seem to like him much.
