I swear I’ll still be reading this book when I’m 82… hopefully the old reader’s theory about the back half of a book being half as long as the front half proves true for this one. I’m liking it—a lot—but damn it’s dense, and I’m tired, and sick, and have other shit to read before the year is out, dammit.

Might take a break and get a Christmas read or two in. Might just power through. ::shrugs::

This book is infinite. Add on illness and together they form a reading slump as brutal as the terrain through which our heroes are so bravely trekking. If I were even just a little less stubborn, I probably would have DNF’d this a couple weeks ago. But I’m stubborn as a mule briefly named Effy and so helplessly hooked. So, yeah… See you in 40 years or so.

Slow and steady wins the race. I have no clue how I still have ~700 pages left. I feel like I’ve never not been reading this book. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but I definitely mean it.

A beautiful but extremely dense and slow-going reading experience. And there’s no chance I’m finishing this before it’s due back at the library. So now I need to decide if I buy it or take a break as I wait for my next hold to come in. It’s not something I’d likely ever revisit, so I’m leaning towards the latter. But losing the little momentum I have might ruin the overall reading experience. ::shrugs::

I likely won’t finish it until I’m well into my 70s but damn I’m hooked.

The prose is beautiful and the atmosphere haunting and I damn-near immediately felt a strong connection to these characters, but I’m still thinking of DNF’ing it because it’s 1,232 pages and there’s pretty no chance in hell that I can finish it in the two weeks I have before it’s due back at the library. What was I thinking??
