I am almost at the point where I left off last year. I am reading it in three formats: paper in English, audiobook in English and ebook in Italian, depending on where I am. I cannot explain it, but every time I read the Italian text, I feel like giving up on the book, as I already have. Surprisingly, the English text is much smoother and I feel more immersed in the story.

I will try again this one in English. Ci riprovo ma in inglese stavolta. Non ve lo so spiegare ma le frasi brevi, di cui non sono un'amante in generale, in inglese scorrono meglio.

Bah, it doesn't hold a grasp on me and I am very neutral towards to the main character

100 Pages through and I have understood very little about how the world works xD besides, I detest the First-Person narration in the present tense T.T

Sara Also, I have noticed that the phrases in Latin are translated into Italian, which takes away part of the Roman-inspired atmosphere

Matteo I red the first 100 pages during last weekend: I've the hardback in english and the digital edition in italian, so I alternated them. I don't understand why the italian translation put words as "Will" or "Transvectal" (the flying buildings... I don't remember exactly the name) in lowercase.
Anyway, I found it a little boring (not for the events, but for the prose and the rhythm in general). I'll try again, but I don't know when XD

Sara I understand your point. The impression is that the events at the beginning are not so engaging. I never had a problem with the pace, I think it serves as an introduction and it worked fine for me. I think it picks up a bit later on, so it takes some patience. As Mark Lawrence said, the readers complaining about the narration in first person and present tense went on holiday, when reviewing this one. Even if in English the narration feels smoother, I am definitely not a fan of this writing style.
