I've just read before a RH with five-somes and every kink under the sun, and yet, this is the most erotic book I've read all year. No kidding.

The yearning in this book beats so many popular romances because at least here were can understand why they think this relationship would endanger their jobs or complicate their life or people would judge them etc. Authors, it's not that hard to actually create an obstacle to a relationship... cough, "The Second Death of Locke". Damn, I hated that one so much.

I think it's brilliant that female alphas and male omegas are possible, but rare, because that makes both characters feel like they "don't fit in" into their primary/secondary gender combo. I always craved OV being used as a commentary on gender expectations rather than doubling down on the stereotypes, and finally someone DID write it.

Missfit I'm not sorry for introduced you to this, but you might need a cold shower tho 😳😳

Anna Makowska Are you saying I should be ashamed? 😆 I think it's more sad when books trying to be super spicy manage to get me bored and skim (sigh, The Huntsman's Heart: a dark romantasy Snow White retelling devolved into ikea sex scenes at some point). Or books that are praised for its "yearning" totally fall flat (looking at you, The Second Death of Locke). Idk, too many books make me feel the connection between the characters is shallow and perfunctory and it's all mechanical. Or I'm told they're obsessed with each other but I don't really feel it. It's not how often they repeat it or how many kinks the author crammed into the book, but whether I fully feel their feelings. And I'd say from all the books I've read this year the only other one where I really felt immersed in the characters' feelings from start to end was Warrior Princess Assassin, but in that one you'd be waiting for real spice until last few chapters. Which is perfectly fine, but I wouldn't call that book "erotic".

Anna Makowska Now that I think of it, so many high spice books felt like "guys, can you finish the sex and get to the plot?" Well, except Something Wicked but that's mostly cuz the plot was so stupid I'd rather have them continue with the sex instead...

So I'm tremendously positively surprised when instead of that, I think "don't interrupt yourselves, I could read few more chapters of this and I wouldn't be bored".
