This is like a darker Throne of Glass so far... Different players, different world dynamics, but bad-ass lady hero with a forgotten past is in prison and now bargaining with a royal for her freedom.

This has slowed considerably. We haven't even discovered the Phoenix connection yet, and the training scenes are bland. I skipped to the end for the last few chapters, and it looks like it gets better. I am going to read until the Phoenix enters the story, then reassess my opinion. The middle might be a complete slog.

This is a little less Throne of Glass and now has Fourth Wing elements. The writing is ok, the characters are still a bit shallow, and the plot is plodding. Yes, plodding as in slowly progressing in a boring way.
