Lady Susan is planning to go to London and also pay a visit to her friend Mrs Johnson all with Mr De Courcy. Meanwhile, her daughter Frederica will stay at Churchill with her uncle and aunt.

Lady Susan’s daughter, Frederica, tries to run away from school and is expelled from it. Mr. Vernon takes her home.
She rapidly gains the favour of Mrs. Vernon as she is the antithesis of her mother; shy, quiet and infuriates the latter.
Frederica admires —maybe in a romantic sense— Mr De Courcy and that upsets her mother, who tries to lure him.
Frederica and her cousins also seem to have a good relationship.

Lady Susan manages to seduce Mr. De Courcy (Reginald, the brother of Mrs. Vernon) and lure him into staying longer at Mr. Vernon’s place. Mr. De Courcy even seems to be willing to marry Lady Susan—though she doesn’t want to.

Mrs. Vernon, enraged by the effect Lady Susan has had on her brother, writes to her parents demanding them to intervene. His father writes to him opposing strongly the idea of marriage.

Due to economical constraints she’s now leaving her daughter at a boarding school and moving to her late husband’s brother house, where she pretends to rapidly attach herself to her cousins. Meanwhile, Mrs Vernon, their mother, has a really negative view on her and talks about it with her mother and brother.
