Every time I read one of these earlier stories I think that there's no way he can top it. But it's obvious I was mistaken. This is a side of Allon we don't see often. Ruthless with no remorse. But when his wife was kidnapped by his nemesis, it's all bets are off! Terrific page turner!

Absolutely outstanding! Silva keeps us on edge, calms the pace then sends a speed ball across the plate on the last page! One of his best. Will give it 5+stars in the review tomorrow!

This would truly make a remarkable film.
The tension, flashbacks and suspense with the prospect of a face off between Allon and Kharkov as they break into a hideaway where his wife is captive is explosive! Another winner from the master!

While there are no guarantees in life, you can always be sure that reading a book by Silva will deliver. And this one is no exception. Better yet replaces violence with strategy and darkness with redemption. I'll be curious to see if he finally nails Kharkov.

I can't emphasize enough the fact that Silva is one of the best mystery authors in the spy genre and Allon is the reason. It's shocking that none of his books have been adapted to screen. They make Mission Impossible and James Bond look like kindergarten

Wow! This is one of the first in the series where Allon doesn't pull punches to get information. Not only does he kill the his captives driver, he uses fire boarding on the other two. Not accustomed to seeing Silva use graphic violence. But since Chiara has been kidnapped by Ivan Kharkov, all bets are off! Fans of mystery, you're missing out if you don't read Silva

As the saying goes, don't get mad, get even. In the midst of his operation to find the defector, Allon learns his vicious Russian enemy Ivan Kharkov has kidnapped Chiara. This will be a real nail biter for sure!

As with all early episodes, it's paced to perfectly. In many ways this is the sequel to Moscow Rules, which was outstanding and then some

In case there are fans of the series, this is the book where Ari Shamron convinces Allon to accept the position as Director of the Office. Since most all my GR friends are mystery fans you are losing out big time if overlook Daniel Silva.. Spy stories or not he's one of the best authors in publishing!

Here we get to see yet another aspect of Allon's ability. In order to figure out how a Russian defector disappeared, he puts on his Sherlock cap and becomes an investigator. Silva brings back the characters from Moscow Rules, including Ivan Kharkov, the ruthless oligarch who funds terrorists and has Gabriel in his sights for separating him from his wife and children.
