Oh wow, didnt expect the actual story to end at 75% of the ebook. The rest is taken up by an excerpt from the next novel, the old EU timeline (which used to be in the front of the print versions), and a synopsis of each old EU era. That's a lot of fluff. Though I was getting suspicious when things were reaching climax at such an early percentage.
Anyways. Still good. Lot of death, though. Feels like an overcorrection

This section of the book feels like an excerpt from someone's TTRPG campaign. A tenuously connected chain of events that are individually unimportant and have nothing to do with the main story, but all serve to collect items/statuses needed to progress the main story. It's rather boring to read, actually. Feels like it's just padding for length. I don't remember it being quite like this.

How convenient that the random Imperial planet they're going to just so happens to have a Gamorrean population, so Piggy can blend in. That's so fucking dumb, lol. Talk about lazy writing

Since when are probe droids unaffected by hand blasters?? Every Star Wars video game ever would dispute that. You picked the wrong kind of droid - probe droids are some of the weakest and most fragile. Should've just made them some sort of combat droid.

Huh. I thought I remembered Tyria's bad past with Colonel Repness was due to sexual assault. Turns out, not at all. Far more PG. Just about greed.
Fun fact, for whatever reason, the name Repness stuck with me. I actually named one of my WoW characters that. I just liked the name; the actual character is a nobody scumbag.
More pre-prequel inaccuracies, with the Rangers marrying Jedi. Fat chance of that. Thanks, George

Forgot Wedge is supposed to only be 28. That's kind of ridiculous. They're trying to make him a general, and he's only 28. That might be understandable during the unstable Rebel days, but they're an established government now. 28 is way too fucking young to be a general.
Having a character from Tatooine be named Sandskimmer is so fucking stupid. Skywalker. Sandskimmer. 'Let me copy your homework' in surname form.

I remember being disappointed that the cast was mostly changed when I first read this. I know what to expect now, but in some ways it is a little sad to move on from the Rogues.
The concept of Wraith Squadron (not named yet) is that they start out as screw-ups and washouts. Ironically, Rogue Squadron would be a more fitting name for them.

Back to rereading through this series. I'm probably just going to keep reading these until I get through all of them. There's a 10th book, published right around the time of the Disney buyout, that I've never read but want to. What better way to finally get to it than doing it after rereading all of the other 9 books for the first time in 15+ years? Might as well do it this way.
