I am very disappointed in this book.

Okay, Bill, now you're skipping everything between Gatlinburg and Virginia? Mary Ellen may have been right about you. That said, your description of the bits of trail you actually walked is helpful, and your writing is easy and comfortable, if not actually funny, so we'll just keep on going here.

I was told this book would be very funny. So far it's nothing more than modestly amusing occasionally. In fact, Mr. Bryson tries so hard to incite a laugh that by the time he calls Thoreau "inestimably priggish and tiresome," I just want to slap him. Well, onward bound in high hopes.
