The author is more comfortable straight-out in the realm of Fantasy than with P&P adaptations. Basing the story on Emma gives him more room to explore and be creative. Sadly, he is cramming too much into one story >> Austenesque, Dragons, mental health and ailments, educational reform, The Abolitionist cause, Slavery, proto-Feminism, and animal rights !

It’s just too much to properly string together!

The sadistic perverseness of the story has reached new heights >> the evil gamea played by the author are akin to the Seven movie — who in their right lind would think torture, medical abuse, enslavement, and murder were a good idea for an Austen-inspired plot ???

I am skipping through graphic descriptions of gore >> bloody carnage, slavers’ torture, women drugged and tradficked, soiled dresses, soiled rooms… everything sordid, disgusting and incompatible with Austen, in my opinion!

The writing of fight scenes and convoluted battles is full chaos and puzzling lapses of judgement — characters freeze, become distracted, call out for someone’s attention at the worst possible moment, again & again! [ eye roll ]
