I’m surprised at how many people not only on Goodreads, but also on the logs, have a very mediocre view of Rex Stout. I too have been put off till now to picking up this series. But now that I have, I think that this book (the very first Nero Wolfe in the series) is utterly brilliant.

I have read all 40+ Nero Wolfe books by Stout over the years and have re-read most of them. Obviously I am an avid fan!!. This is the first of the Wolfe books and not the best..........but they just keep getting better. If you are going to continue with the series, I would suggest that you leave A Family Affair until the end since it has a big surprise that you would never expect.
