In this part of the book, Harris talked about going to a fundraising event in Massachusetts that was originally planned for the Biden Victory Fund. She recalled seeing the swathes of people and thinking “I cannot fail them”. She also discussed the planning of the convention. She also talked about securing the release of American detainees from Russia that the Biden Admin had been working on.

In the two chapters I read today, Kamala talked about the struggle of supporting our long standing ally, Israel, while trying to advocate for a ceasefire behind the scenes. When she said “how they defend themselves matters” Bibi was furious that she said that. Protesters never went to Trump rallies! She also discussed wanting to pick Pete Buttigieg as her VP, but she was already asking America for a lot.

In this chapter, Kamala talked about how Joe’s team fueled negative stories about her while she was VP. They never defended her when media made fun of her laugh or mannerisms. They gave her impossible tasks like being in charge of migration, they never defended her when the GOP lied and said she was the Boarder Czar. Joe’s team would get mad bc she spoke better than Joe, they dimmed her down.

Kamala talked about how she came up with her slogan “We Are Not Going Back” at a rally in Milwaukee. The crowd chanted it back, unprompted. That’s when the slogan solidified. Doug had a hard time, because DC isn’t designed for male spouses. They were invited to The White House for 4th of July with the Biden’s, Jill snipped at Doug saying “Are you supporting us?” Now they wanted her by Biden’s side?

So far in this chapter Kamala talked about wanting to have her first campaign event in Wilmington, Delaware bc Joe’s team had worked so hard. She talked about keeping Joe’s staff because there just wasn’t enough time to create her own. Jill returned Doug’s call a day after Joe dropped out. She talks about having a respect for Joe, but also being hurt and disappointed by him. She had her first even in Delaware

I really just cannot get enough of this book already. Today we read about how her sister’s husband, Tony, had already prepared the “red files” for if something were to happen to Joe. She also touched on her calls after Joe made the announcement. Whitmer said she needed time, Wes Moore said she’d always been loyal. Clinton’s were excited. Nancy Pelosi wanted there to be a process but she was all in on Harris

This book is SO FREAKING GOOD. Started off with the day Joe Biden called her, she had zero idea that Joe Biden was going to drop out. She was with her nieces and she wanted him to endorse her right away. Him and his team didn’t want to. She also talked about the debate, and how his team wanted her to say that “Joe won” the debate. Joe & Jill didn’t want the debate to happen, his team did, and convinced him.
