1. this entire book is a great example of Le Guins mission statement—to make fiction that by showing alternate worlds makes us see our own in a clearer way.
2. i realize the whole book can be read as a man waking up again and again in a inception type way

the end brings a lot of positive surprises, i found the climax uninteresting although a nightmare in action was a cool set piece to do. Or was just passive as always and the alien logic was just very convenient. that being said the aliens who exist in dreams are pretty cool and give a new meaning to the title of the novel. another thing i really like is this jumbled post-disaster world, very multiverse but sounds fun

this show down is kind of boring and Orr‘s newfound buddhist/taoist ideology is another handfisted Guinism in this list of such

the apocolypse twist is very anime but i kind of like it. it all started with a little sign of hope (the dandelion between the steps) and blossoms into stranger and stranger worlds full of conflict

in a lot of ways this is le guins worst impulses taking Überhand

looking forward to my 3rd le guin. I think applying a critical-reading-of-psychoanalysis-need-to-make-meaning lens could be super interesting while reading this! mostly inspired by sontag ofc
