Read Numbers 15-20 today.

God's wrath continues and he subjects the Israelites and Levites to punishments for their complaints against him, and against Moses and Aaron. Then, Aaron dies on Mount Hor as punishment for disobeying God through his presence when Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it to produce water (as God had told him to do). Why did God punish Aaron first? I wonder what will happen to Moses.

Read Joshua 9-13 today. I love that God fulfills his promises to His people. His follow-through has always been great, but regardless, I wish he would have some mercy for the people who weren't given the opportunity to be led by Him or follow in His steps. I hope that those who are not faithful still have room for redemption in their lives, and that they eventually seek God or a higher power they believe in.

Read Joshua 5-8 today. The Lord is amazing in his work to help His people. I always wonder though, why so much violence and destruction was necessary in the Old Testament. His anger burned strongly against all those who committed sin, and those who weren't His people faced such severe consequences. Also really liked the devotional here about Rahab; reminds me that anyone can be redeemed if they turn to the Lord.

Put my Bible chapter tabs in yesterday morning (spent ~2+ hours doing that)! It's made my Bible so much easier to navigate, and I'm so happy that I committed to that task.

Read Joshua 1-4 today. I was really moved by the devotional, once again — God really does give me strength and courage in the same way that he gives it to Joshua. I don't have it in me, but I believe in my strength because God is with me.

I feel guilty because I fell back on my commitment to read the Bible everyday, but God has led me back to His Word on this day. :)

Finished Deuteronomy. I think Moses' journey with God was both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Moses was God's person, but God still had to subject him to judgment because of his & Joshua's disobedience at the Waters of Meribah. Still, Moses was shown the promised land. 3

Read Deuteronomy 22-27.

I think it's very interesting to think about how strict God is with His people in terms of following his statutes and ordinances, especially when one considers how difficult it can be to uphold some or all of these laws. There are little to no exceptions to the expectations the Lord has set out for His people to follow, either. I could make a list of contradictory passages.

Read Deuteronomy 13-21.

While I understand why God disciplines His people, I am still confused about the necessity for this method of learning — consequences that lead people to fear Him. Why does God teach through fear? I wonder why God can't instil good values in His people if He loves them so much, even though I also understand the concept of free will.

Read Deuteronomy 5-12. It's reassuring to learn that God disciplines His children like a father; showing the consequences when good is not followed, but showing love and prosperity when His ordinances are obeyed. On the contrary, I wonder why God makes it so that His people can commit harmful acts against others, for the sole purpose that others are not His followers. Are we all not equal under the eyes of the Lord?

Read Deuteronomy 1-4 today.

It's easier for me to understand the order of events that occurred in Exodus - Numbers, through Moses' narration.

I still find myself struggling to understand how God is known to be compassionate, but he could not let Moses cross into the Jordan because of the anger he had with the people of Israel.

Love the devotionals in this Bible — it gives me insight on how I connect to scripture.

Finished reading the rest of Numbers and the starting pages of Deuteronomy.

I find it interesting that God had Moses continue leading the Israelites before he died on Mount Hor; Moses fulfilled his purpose and promptly accepted his death for his defiance to the Lord when he struck the rock instead of speaking to it. God's wrath is mighty, but so is His love for His people, which he shows through His giving nature.

Read Numbers 21-26.

Every time I get to a Bible chapter that contains a census of some sort, I wonder what purpose it serves to list so many people in that way.

So, today, after reading The Second Census, I looked up the 'why.'

God shows his faithfulness to his promise to Abraham by multiplying his descendants. He also shows that he considers each person to be valuable by acknowledging each person's identity.
