the gamey beats are the weakest in this novel tbh i feel like that tends to happen with novels where the game is made up. but at the same time i understand when authors dont wanna bother with real games sometimes - too much research.

You know I think about it the other way round. Isn’t it way more interesting when the game doesn’t exist and everything is invented? You don’t know the rules and can’t look them up. That’s one of the reasons why I love FOG so much - the game sequences were great. But admittedly in GHFOD the game is a bit heavy on the frippery around the actual fights.

But JZB has also written about LOL? So no excuse :DBtw I've read wangxian fic about a made up LOL recently. I felt the game bits were the strongest part there.

GHFOD's game is like that and yet beibei insists on spending too much page space on it. boring~

she wrote about LoL and Pubg and i still enjoyed the gaming elements quite a bit. but here its not the case at all. i think she needs to stick to real games.
