I'm mad at myself for tapping out where I did last year. Apparently I was so close to when things really pick up.

I'm enjoying this so much more the second time around. I think it's because I've since learned that with PFH's books, you need to gauge when to set them aside and give yourself a break for a day or two.

Very close to DNFing. Some very interesting concepts, but it's quickly becoming not worth the endless slog of plotlines that don't even feel like SciFi at all. Just skim read a 20-ish page plotline about camping. That's it. Just... Normal, every day camping. Except on a different planet. But you wouldn't know that with how it was written.

As a civil engineer, I'm loving all the shout-outs to civil engineering in this book. Usually don't get that in SciFi lol.

Setting is interesting so far. Wormholes with trains is a pretty unique take on FTL travel. His female character writing is 🧐, and I absolutely skipped any sort of cringey sexual dialogue. Also, lots of guys wearing kilts in the 24th century. Kinda funny. Overall enjoying it thus far!
