"when driven out of their conquests by the later nations, the names and exploits of their heroes, and the compositions of their bards, spread far and wide among the invaders, and affected intimately their tastes and literature for many centuries" ех...

Arthur finally does something except holding court (the French had him doing nothing else) and it's like watching Donquixote Doflamingo going through twelve labors of Hercules, with a team. tl;dr yay war crimes! He laid to waste 1/5 of Ireland. I get the feeling the Welsh weren't exactly fans

Perceval from the later iterations: unlucky dumbass; Peredur from the Maninogion: everything is a nail when you're a hammer

От якби я спочатку прочитала цю книжку, а потім віршований переклад Yvain, the Knight of the Lion, то The Lady of the Fountain була б класною основою, а Yvain - її веселим переказом. А так вийшли два прозових тексти, які не дуже сильно відрізняються

It`s an interesting collection. The spreading process is good to study, since it went from "Wales" to Bretagne in France (common culture), then to the Norman court (invaders of the Anglo-Saxons who were invaders of Welsh who were...), then it was naturalized, after it was forgotten and rediscovered. The Once and Future King by T.H White emphasizes this.

It`s mostly about war, with the Arthurian setting as a means to tell the story. It`s a pacifist manifesto. The Sword in the Stone animation is an adaptation. Maybe the time isn`t good for it. But The Mabinogion is cool. The atmosphere and the setting are great :) I read it in search for more Arthurian tales.
> It`s a pacifist manifestoYeah, that's it chief. The Sword in the Stone is adorable and I've always liked that one, but for me in 2025 it's going to be a triggering read. I even get twitchy at post-WW1 Merlin BBC fanfiction :D
