There's some really apt social commentary here, like having Hussein complain about Eastern European immigrants. Very accurate I must say.

This doesn't read like horror or erotic suspense or w/e the publisher labeled it as. It reads like a satire of certain lifestyles of Londoners. Both the posh ones, and the "big city party animals". It holds a distorting mirror against them to show their shortcomings and hypocrisy in a darkly funny way.

The deadpan comebacks are killing me. 🤣 And I admit a book rarely makes me laugh.

Now I understand what people mean by "voice dripping off the page". We don't just learn about the protagonist. We can palpably feel her loneliness and the attitude of toughing it through. It's so damn visceral.
