This book has name dropped baseball greats who were drafted in 2002 and now as a fan I’m both geeking out AND astonished at the talent the Athletics passed up

Although baseball does rely heavily on physical capabilities and talent, I wish this former view of scouting would weasel its way into the layman's world for those who don't necessarily qualify for a position on paper but have superior work ethic and the ability to pick up information quickly would be able to land the position they hope for.

Now that I'm reading this, I wish the extra details of Billy's high school baseball career made it into the movie. The way Michael Lewis gathers and presents the information is so immersive. Then again, I recognize why it didn't, because this is just a set-up for the larger picture: Beane's contributions to the Oakland A's turnaround. And I think that's what's gonna make this a great book.
